Emlyn began playing classical piano as a
child to a reasonably high standard. At 15 he decided that he
wanted to play rock music. Due to global overpopulation of
guitarists,
he bought
a bass instead and quickly found a love of all things low and
groovy.
After jamming in a garage for a couple of
years someone eventually let him out and he joined his first real
band (This Week's Darlings) and got a taste of gigging and studio
recording. Music had become such a big part of his life that he
ditched real education and went to study popular music at college
and then at Salford University. This gave Emlyn the chance to play
for hours every day (well it’s better than working! Ed) with dozens
of different artists and groups, as well as gaining skills as a
producer and recording engineer.
On his return to Surrey and having achieved his degree, he quickly
found demand for his playing. He now plays jazz with guitarist
Marek Homola (where he met Marco from The Maniacs) and has been
playing on sessions at West Street recording studios, as well as
teaching bass to help pay the bills.
