Paul has been playing drums and percussion
from an early age. He has played with many types of bands over the
years from rock to swing and was the drummer in a pub
house band
for 12 years.
Having tried various instruments including
piano, clarinet and accordion, Paul finally decided on the drums as
it was the least complicated to learn. With a very supportive
family behind him who had procured the plethora of failed
instruments, he was forced to wash cars as a young teenager to raise
the money to buy his first set of drums. With very tolerant
neighbours and parents who were lucky not to have suffered serious
vocal cord damage screaming at him up the stairs to stop playing as
the plaster was coming down, Paul honed his skill at playing very
very loudly!
Paul likes to listen to most styles of music
and the drummers he most admires are Buddy Rich (He was great with
the Muppets! Ed) and Jeff Porcaro.
Having hung up his sticks some 5 years ago,
he is now coming out of retirement to do what he loves best…… to
play with a group of talented musicians who really enjoy
what they
do.... but until then he's making do with The Maniacs!
