‘The Quickening’ may be too dynamic a description. Perhaps ‘The Gathering’, or even ‘The Get Together’ would be more appropriate – less call for samurai swords, dodgy long hair and pseudo Scottish/Spanish accents à la Sean Connery!
Anyway, all we really wanted to let you know is that the band will be having a jamboree (God bless the old thesaurus!) this week and next! The reason for generally celebrating this occurrence is that, as the band are scattered across the wilds of Kent, Surrey and Northern Ireland, it’s quite difficult for us to get together on a regular basis.
However, on the weekend of 5 July, Andy and Jane will be attending Gazastock ’08 on the Saturday, where Andy will be performing in his other band, Q (www.myspace.com/time4q). You can find out more about Gazastock ’08 at www.gazastock.co.uk – unfortunately the festival is completely SOLD OUT… well, make that fortunately for the Hospice In The Weald charity – a ticket did go on sale on eBay last week, eventually selling for £132.00, but we’re not sure if any more are likely to pop up there before the weekend. Tickets sold out within 48 hours and as they’re allocated on a first come, first served basis you always need to get in there quick! If you’d like to keep up to date with ticket releases etc. for Gazastock ’09, send an e-mail to: supporters@gazastock.co.uk.
On Sunday, most of the band will be “laying down a few tracks”… (sorry, that’s a bit too street for us – not sure we can get away with that)… anyway, we’ll be recording some new material to post up on the site to subject you all to.
This will be closely followed by our next gig at The Two Brewers in Hadlow (Kent) on Saturday 12 July, where we may well be trying out some new material from our rehearsal the day before (if you’re really unlucky!). We’ve also been promised a hen do that night, so there should be one or two classic photo ops as well. It’s an open gig, so if you’re in the vicinity and can make it, we’d love to see you down there.
Something about Marathon to Snickers, Opal Fruits to Starbursts and other renames of great brands… and then there’s us!band (see How It All Began article) and because we don’t do any Manic Street Preachers numbers!
